As an artist and humanitarian, I was inspired to blend together my love of animals 
with my love of creating one of a kind Artwork- in this case immortalizing a beloved family 
pet.  My teenage son had to have his 4 year old dog ("PICO") euthenized due to severe, painful, glaucoma. He loved that dog so much, and in the end, impressed me with his strength and courage to see his dog though his progressive illness and subsequent passing. He agonized over how long Pico could stay with him and have some quality of life. When the time came, he made all of the preparations with his Vet. The night before, he made him a special last meal, and in the morning he held Pico while he took his last breath.

   I still cry when I remember the details of that experience.

   All the while during this, he asked me- what happens to dogs when they die? I told him that I felt that there was a special place for them, and that love never dies. In my effort to comfort him, I found a picture of him with Pico, and quickly drew a crude sketch of Pico with angel wings looking down from "Heaven", and the phrase, "Heaven holds a special place, for those who love the human race!" came to me. I then realized that this would be my mission, to do this artwork, to heal hearts, donate money to neighborhood Veterinary clinics-through "The Pico Fund" (to help people pay for treatments and medication) and animal rescue organizations. All work obtained through this website (the $50 donation) will help support Elite Animal Rescue- check out their website, from my links!

  I told my son, that his Pico would not die in vain, this will all be done in his honor, it took a little tiny bit of the sting out of his pain knowing we can do some good through this unfortunate tragedy.  
   

I experience a special bond with every pet whose portrait I do, My son loved his dog very much and the loss was painful. I have loved and lost many wonderful pets. I love my dog Kato so much and I can't bear to think of losing him, so I really keep close to me, the love I know you feel for your pet.
